THE WORLD IS AN (ONE'S) OYSTER - "If you have a lot of money, you can have anything you want. The proverb first appears in Shakespeare's play 'The Merry Wives of Windsor' (1600).'Falstaff: I will not lend thee a penny. Pistol: Why, then, the world's mine oyster, Which I with sword will open.' Act II, Scene II." From "Random House Dictionary of Popular Proverbs and Sayings" (1996) by Gregory Y. Titelman (Random House, New York, 1996).

the world is your oyster
you have the ability and the freedom to do exactly what you want. The world is your oyster when you're young and healthy and free to go anywhere.

As are MANY quotes, the origin is Shakespeare:

"Why, then the world's mine oyster,
Which I with sword will open."

--From The Merry Wives of Windsor (II, ii, 2-3)

"A thief named Pistol has asked to borrow money from Falstaff, the incorrigible who is up to his old tricks in this farcical play. Falstaff has recently discharged some of the petty thieves (including Pistol) with whom he romped, more out of financial necessity than anything else, but he used the excuse of insubordination. He asked Pistol and another member of his group of thieves to help him in his plan to seduce two wealthy wives in Windsor by delivering the identical love letter to each. When they refused, Falstaff fired them. Now Pistol is back and asking for a loan. When Falstaff turns him down, Pistol warns him that the world is his oyster, and he will slice it open by force, taking what he will. Falstaff lectures him about stealing, but Pistol reminds him that Falstaff always took a percentage of what they'd stolen in the past."
