I don't know how Guatamala is but man, if you had done that in say Mexico you could kiss your freedom goodbye. In a way I can understand the deporting and not wanting to have to pay to have her in our jail system, but still. Also, how can we give someone probation then deport them? How could it be enforced? That just makes us look even dumber to the international world.

On the surface it looks like there actually was nothing done about it and even given a free ticket home. It may be that there was an agreement with the two governments and she may have to spend time in her own country or some way of making sure she could not return to the USA. It appears like it could not be proved that the woman died because of the accident. Most of the time there are circumstances that never get put in print that should be. Most items on the news are incomplete and tend to be slanted to one view. I do agree if it is that simple then there should have been a much stiffer sentence.

I feel she should have jail time, but being deported back home to Guatamala is pretty bad too for a woman. The elderly womans death isn't justified with 2yrs probation. The woman should have gotten 2yrs in jail. Yet sadly but true someone when easy on her for being an immigrant woman despite the crime.

No it isn't fair. The illegal immigrant shouldn't have added to her offence by driving without a license... and then killing somebody (although accidentally) in the process. I think a jail term would be fair. 2 years probation is too light of a sentence in my opinion

Surely that is not all there was to the case.

I think you should realise that the circumstances play a very important role in every case.

Also the frame of mind and the intentions of the person commiting a crime are very important.

you can never ever present a law case like this.

Our prisons are already over crowded with citizens of "questionable legalitly" it would be a bigger punishment to the person to deport them to their third world country. Don't want to sound hateful but our prison system is like the Hilton compared to the drug cartel ruled wastelands some of these immigrants come from.

Which is worse...2 years in an American prison or a life sentence in Guatamala? I agree it isn't fair but on the other hand to me every minute an illegal spends in this country is one minute too long.

i agree if an american had done that there we would be spending our lives in their prison but look at the usa with the Nazi pow they held those men were allowed to rome free in the united states even taking the jobs of our service men who were fighting the war while the usa knew what hitler was doing to our and our allies pows they were being killed and sent to camps just like to jewish people were the USa needs to become more strict thats the bottom line

If it was an American citizen, you better believe they would have been served time. This country really sucks lately.
