Everyone wants something for nothing, kiddo. It's human nature. And yes, a great many people do achieve satisfaction having lived by a strong work ethic. Don't believe the doom-and-gloom prophets who insist we're going to visit the Devil by way of handbasket. They have their own agendas, and you need not buy into them.

I'm 27 and I've had job since 14. I have two degrees and I was an Americorps volunteer for a year. I get a lot of satisfaction from hard work. I even do yard work for my neighbors during the weekends for extra cash. I am also Liberal, so I don't want to hear conservatives complaining that we do not work. Conservatives sit around and collect money from their parents and leech off of inheritances! I am blue collar moving into white collar and I know what it means to work!

Put it like this - If I was an heiress or independently wealthy I would never WORK another day in my life!!
Now, that does not mean I would not do some consulting occasionally, or volunteer for some charitable events or organization? No. However, the big difference to me is the REQUIREMENT to "punch that timeclock" and follow Company policy. If I didnt need a job, Hell No I would not work. I would involve myself in things I wanted to do, even make money at that, but my schedule and my time would be my own.

Depends. I love doing things myself (handy-work), and get a great deal of satisfaction after a job well done. But when it comes other work (office tasks), I try to pussyfoot around as much as possible.

Nope.
My fiancee actually asked me yesterday how I could possibly pride myself on being lazy. I answered that I have never seen any distinct benefit of having a strong work ethic.
I work only because it's what I have to do to put food on the table and a roof over my head. And quite frankly, as soon as I am able to quit, you can be certain I will. :)

I do. Now that I am retired (early at 55) I continue my work ethic into my hobbies and other things I do. A great work ethic is one the improtant things people measure you by.
The quality of a persons word and their work ethic tell me a lot about them.

I don't necassarilly believe in working but I have to do it.
If I didn't need the money I would just travel and enjoy my life. Not work for companies contributing to making them rich, while I get by and can't travel and enjoy.
But yes, I take pride in a task well done.

I can't let things unfinished and most of the time I try to do my best to accomplish a task. I get some satisfaction from this, yes.

Mouse say, "The only way to make money is to work for it."
I believe in working hard, working fast, and working efficiently. ...Pity I work for a family business (I'm not family) and don't get any mind. The daughter of the owners just stopped working, and when she "worked", it included taking a sitting break, taking a smoking break, taking a bathroom break, and taking a "I wanna sit next to mommy and watch her work" break.
Some of the other workers have been known to find hiding places to sleep (propane tank cage was the funniest). One of them is under suspicion of stealing, most of them don't show up to work when they're supposed to, and most of them just sit back, lean against a wall, and tell me what to do. (Usually things the boss just asked THEM to do)
