Schedule your return for after the two days is up. Have a deadline (for Guard job or any other) whgere you can truly go back to your old job knowing that there is no other conflict. You should not use your old employer like that. Taking a better job is fine. Keeping your old job on the leash is not. Ask yourself, why do you want to leave old job so bad that you were seeking offers from multiple companies.

My scenario:
You - Old job, I'd like to schedule my return to work for Monday, 8/14.
You - Guard, I need a definite answer by Friday, 8/11 or I will be obligated to return to my previous job.

I'd take the job...at least if the national guard doesn't call then you have a steady income, and if the do call then you can always quit. Thank you so much for being in the National Guard and supporting our country!

You've got to do some soul searching. Why are you leaving your old job? More money? Peace of mind? Less traveling? etc... If it's money, be careful, more money doesn't bring happiness. Sounds like your old job values you allot. If offered, make sure the national guard is where you want to be before you take it.

I think you should return to your old job...the fact that they agreed to take you back even though you left for greener pastures shows that the employers in the old job valued you. What makes you so sure that you'll get your new job? It's too big a gamble. Besides, what makes you so sure your new job is indeed greener pastures for you? You should sit down and work out a new remuneration package or job scope that will keep you motivated to stay in that old job.

Depends on how financialy set you are?can you afford to wait it out?And if the guard doesnt call do you have enough funds to carry you until you find another job?Answering these questions should give you the answer you seek.Good luck God bless;O)

There is an old saying....a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.Stay with your job until you know for sure that you got the new job.You need something to live off of until you get the one you want.Good luck to you.

Explain your situation to your job and just wait until you find out about the other one.
