The other answers are correct for the most part.
Here's the problem with installing new memory chips to computers.
Older model motherboards (Mainboard) have SIMS (Single In Line Memory) and must be installed in like pares.
They also come in parody checking and will only work with other parody checking chips. Also EDO chips will only work with other EDO chips.
These SIM Chips usually fit in 72 pin sockets.
Some old motherboards have slots for DIM (Dual In Line Memory) as well. These DIM Chips usually fit in 128 pin sockets.
These chips may be installed individually.
On most new machines, the speed of the chip is important. Although they are reverse compatible most of the time, they cannot however be replaced with slower chips.
Remember that memory chips are very susceptible to static damage by not being grounded to the case when installing. (You should wear a ground strap when ever working with memory). Most memory is warranties that are for life so if it does blow during installation the memory companies will replace it. Be sure you tell them you were taking static precautions when installing it.
Also, one answer stated the peeping sound that your machine will make when the memory has a problem. If this occurs, remove the new memory and reinstall the old memory and try booting up again.
If the machine comes up, you were ether installing the wrong memory or the memory is bad.
By the way the sockets should have keys (bumps) that will only allow the memory to be put in one way.
And some brand name machines use proprietary sockets that only allow memory mad for their machine to be used. The memory makers will help you with this one.
Good Luck

1- may be you have the worong RAM : your Ram dosen't work with your computer or dose'nt compatible with your motherboard .. so check this point .
2- may be the Ram chip didn't put correctly in the Ram slot ..you have to hear alarm sound when you have this problem
3- it is very possible that the Ram is not working so you have to reolace it with a new one
and may be your computer problem dosen't heve any relation with RAM .. check the other parts of your computer , motherboard , Cpu , power suply , Harddisk ... etc or take it to a computer engineer or anyone who has experience in computer maintenance ..
i wish you good luck

Sounds like you dont have the right ram. Even if it fits, that still doesnt mean you have the right kind that you need for your comp. Make sure when you go buy it that you tell them the kind of mother board you have. It should be listed on there somewhere. Hope this helps.

You are either putting the RAM chip into the slot incorrectly, or you have the wrong chip. I would suggest going to a Fry's or Best Buy for assistance.
