England lost to Portugal in the penalty shoot-out, 1:3, during the quarter-finals.

ok, it has been ages since the world cup.
There are quite a few factors as to why they lost. Right from the start, they lost owen to some sort of foot inhury. Owen is a great player. He might have peform well later on had they not lose Owen. Anyway, Owen wasn't enjoying his time. He wasn't happy with his coach Errikson. He even said that he wanted a showdown wirtth Errikson with he was replaced.
Next factor. Rooney was mad later on. He didn't kept his cool when ronaldo provoke him.. He then got a red card. Without rooney, i doubt the team can win because as the newspaper said, their spirits were left when rooney entered to play ,. And anyway, rooney save some goals and could have scored anyway.
The next factor is Beckham. He was sick. He vommit on the field. It was green in colour and that means that it's pretty bad. He tried , but he had to go during the match. Lady luck was with him but who knew that he had to get off in the end because of dome discomforts. He scored a goal anyway.
The next factor and I think is the most important one is that, Steven Erikson can guide the team to greater heights. He had got all the imfomation. He knew about the teams so much about about them but he didn't know how to apply them . This is what is friend say on the papers. Erikson asked for advice . But he didn't do what he was advice to do.
And ummm... the laat one is I think because owen should have partner withe rooney , not peter with rooney.
There are other factors but I am not quite sure if there are right

-no Owen there was Crouch who is unconsistent in his performance.
-beckham was subsituted this was a moral booster for portugal.
-rooney was sent off creating problems for england.
-there was a fact behind everyons mind that england were playing with 10 players.
-the 10 player fact can be avoided in the penalty kicks.
-the GKeeper of portugal is a monster in saving kicks.
-gerrard & lampard the most useful pk takers missed the kicks.
-problems problems problems for england no way out and lost the world cup.

England lost because they just never clicked as a team. Beckham's free kick was probably their best goal and it came from a foot of getting saved. There was quite a bit of publicity but when it came down to it they didn't do it. You would think that some of the veterans would show Rooney the way but obviously not.

c.ronaldo if he didnt get rooney a red card and sent of it would have england a better chance and if they didnt injure beckham during the game to the took out 2 great players did portugal plan this or not i do not know but i know the game was not a fair match
cause englnad down 1 man and beckham out the game was one sided

Why do you think they should have won it? Not a chance!!! They cheated the '66 w/c on a dodgy decision and were not even at the races in the 2006 w/c. As it happened, even a sh*t team like Portugal done them.

If Christiano ronaldo wouldn't have interfered with Rooney, then England would surely reach to the finals. But the refree gve the red card to rooney and the game slipped off from england.

well, everything started when Becks went to the bench... then we said "ok we still have Rooney.. but then Mr. Cristiano Ronaldo comes in to help get Rooney out of the game, and he gets what he wanted as always,., so yeah we just had maybe Ashley Cole and Joe Cole playing but none of the good ones were there. so thats more or less what happened on that game for a better answer visit www.youtube.com
