Hornets are large eusocial wasps, reaching up to 35 millimetres (1.5 inches) in length. The true hornets make up the genus Vespa, and are distinguished from other vespines by the width of the vertex (part of the head behind the eyes), which is proportionally larger in Vespa; and by the anteriorly rounded gasters (the section of the abdomen behind the wasp waist).

Euro- wasps are larger than our wasps, but not larger than hornets. There was aplague of these in July 2005, in Norfolk.

there was a wasp in the room at a wedding reception i went to on saturday OH MY GOD it was absolutly massive, like 3 times the size of a normal one, i have no idea what it was.....ive seen hornets, but this one was way bigger, maybe it was a euro jobbie? i didnt stay that long to find out, as soon as i seen it i was out the door!

European wasps (yellowjackets) and Hornets are two totally different genera, Vespula and Vespa respectively.
Hornets are much larger than wasps.
