I've just bought a scanner from my local junk shop - god knows wether it's in working order or not - and I haven't a clue how to use it. I want to use it to: i) Upload pictures onto the internet, ii) Send photographs via email, and iii) Whatever else it may be used for (your suggestions). So c'mon, how do I get it to work?

I don't know how much you paid for it, but, the new ones are not very expensive these days. Anyway, make sure your scanner is attached to your computer via cable (if you don't have one, you have to buy one). Window should tell you there is a new hardware detected. Then go to my computer and then to scanner and see if it's there. If not, I don't know what to do.
My experience is it's better not to buy used computer equipment since I always regret afterward.

I assume that you have Microsoft as your operating system. Anyway, it is plug and play. Attach the scanner's necessary cables into your computer (USB port) then turn it on, your PC should be able to detect the new hardware. The wizard will come out which will guide you step by step thru the installation process .... keep the scanner's driver (the CD that comes with it) ready, it will ask for it later. Good luck.

We need the make and model number of the scanner. Go to the scanner manufacturer's website and look in the SUPPORT and or DOWNLOADS section and look for the Drivers file for your scanner and Operating system, ie: Windows XP, etc..

Once you attach the scanner to your computer and it detects it it should give you an option to go on the internet and get the drivers.

Does the scanner light up when you press the scan button?
Does the scan wizard pop up when you press the scan button?
When you plugged the scanner in, did you get a "New Hardware Found" message?
