Marriage is the social institution under which a man and woman live as husband and wife by legal or religious commitments. But for two people who are in love – living together as husband and wife “Marriage is not the matter”. What is important for them is that, there is respect, compassion and love at each other.

I would prefer marriage. There is an added element of commitment. Plus you are right, there are legal and religious commitments. Legal is important as the law would protect me and my children in case husband decides to go off and commit adultery or be abusive etc. And if you are religious, being married would protect your sense of morality and conscience. However, I'm sure there are millions who would disagree with me.
