Every month I have the same problem, I end up very very bloated and can put on upto a stone in weight. This is really depressing as my clothes don't fit and I feel fat. It also causes pain. I have tried water tablets to no avail, tried drinking more water this bloats me more. Been to the doctors over and over and end up being stuck on different contraception tablets. The bloating lasts for three weeks every month which is not a good confidence provider. It seems to have effected me more the older I have got as I don't remember having the same problem as a teen. Any help? Advice I could really do with.

Do you need to be on the pill? If so, have you tried Yasmin? It has an ingredient which has a diuretic effect that directly counteracts the estrogen-induced fluid retention. If you don't need to be on the pill and they aren't helping anyway, stop taking them altogether and opt instead for a prescription diuretic, such as HCTZ (hydrochlorothiazide). Cut back on salt intake as well and try to drink as much water as possible throughout the day. Add a few slices of lemon to the water every now and again, as that also seems to help. You can also try the DASH Diet or other means of controlling the edema...

I just started taking Boldo, a herbal tablet for water retentions, they seem to be working for me but i am constantly peeing. I am more thirsty too so worry about dehydrating so i am constantly carrying and drinking a bottle of water, my trousers seem t fit a bit better now though and i figure drinking soo much water will be good for my skin etc etc. I am also trying some gentle exercise (im doing sit ups on a gym ball X50) every day to encourage my metabolism. Everyone else is right about drinking more water, sounds wrong i know to drink more to get rid of water retention but it does work. If you try Boldo herbal shops sell the £2.99 for 100 and can take up to 6 a day but have 1 week off a month. Hope this helps.

Hi there
I resolved my problem of retention by diuretics and reducing salt in my diet.My swelling was mostly in my legs though not related to my periods.
I had looked into the waterfall diet too, might be worth a try for you if the tablets don't help.
I think you have to pay for the book but you can pick up bits and peices of what to eat / not to eat from google ..just type waterfall diet
good luck !
