I have a fairly new HP Pavilion, and I use Maxthon internet browser. In the past couple of days, when I am using Maxthon, either more Maxthon applications (up to 13 this morning) or Microsoft Office open on their own. I don't see how the computer is already malfunctioning- I've only had it a week. Any ideas on why this is happening?

Maxthon is based on (and requires) Internet Explorer 5 or 6. It is virtually an add-on for Microsoft and is therefore subject to all the security holes and attacks that are made on the MS browser.

I recommend that you try Firefox and ditch Maxthon (and IE).

You could check your Startup folder but I suspect that there is a plug-in problem with Maxthon ... or it could be that your mouse gestures are set up incorrectly in Maxthon (I have no direct experience of those, but I do know that you can do lots of interesting things by 'gesturing' - moving the mouse in a particular way.) It's a good possibility that you are opening stuff simply by moving the mouse around!

Sounds like you have either adware or some sort of spyware on your system, you need to grab a copy of a good scanner and run it over your system ASAP.

A good one is AD-AWARE and it's free, it will only take you 1 minute at the very most to download it and another 4 to install it.

Perhaps your computer has gotten a virus, a malware or a spyware. Please invest in a good antivirus software application (eg. Norton), spyware program (there are free softwares on www.download.com) and a firewall and let the programs get rid of the virus or spyware.
