For me it used to be my running!! I could get up, lace on my shoes and head out for a run. It would be something that I did by myself and it allowed me to focus my thoughts and mental ideas together, much like a potter gathers a lump of clay on the wheel and "Centers" it before he can throw a shape. Running was my sanctuary.

There's a rather large farm that's been in my family for over 100 years. I live about 15 minutes from it and when everything gets overwhelming or I need a place to just be alone and think, I drive out there. There's a special grove of trees with an old bench that my father built many years ago. I've spent many hours sitting there surrounded by those big oak trees,

The large municipal park across the street from me. I go for long walks through there and downtown to clear my mind. Often times with the mp3 player loaded up with songs that evoke strong emotion. The autumn is my favorite time to do so. Great colors and fewer people around.

it used to be just my mom's house where i'v lived for the last 20 something years. now there're two: that one and a certain place in Europe, where i find peace and quiet despite all.
in my mom's house, everything is simply so familiar. it's home. it makes me happy staying there because it's a happy home, my mom being the center of it all. i can just be myself, no pressures at all. it's where i energize myself, basking in real, unconditional love from my mom and family.
in Europe i found love. the first real love of my life. a place where i can be myself, too; no pressures at all. where i can let my hair down, wear anything i like, look any way i feel like, and still feel accepted and loved. here, i bask in real, unconditional love from a man.

Down by the river. I sit and watch the fish, deer, birds, etc...... It's a great place to relax, listen to the water and contemplate.

On bad days it's in the face of a supportive friend.
On good days it's in the mirror.
