250K engine and 150K miles automatic transmission (assuming the manufacturer's maintenance schedule is followed as a minimum)

It depends on the car and the level of care it gets. Modern cars should last at least 10 years. Engines commonly rack up 200K+ miles. Automatic transmissions usually last 100K+.

I have a '91 Chrysler with 290K mile on it that still runs like a champ - doesn't burn oil and gets 28 MPG combined. I've had it since new and carefully maintained it all these years.

I also have a '67 Chevy that has been in the faimily since new. It has 250K miles on it and has never had any serious work done to it except to have the valves and seats replaced to operate on unleaded gas, rebuild the front end suspension and to replace the AC system to use 134A instead of R12.

Cars are a lot like people - if you take care of them they will last far longer than design plan.

(Trick Question?)
Depends on:
The Car Maker:
(the day it was made)
The Year it was made:
Where it is driven:
How much it is driven:
How well it is maintained:
How it was driven:

In MY OPINION, from what I personally know:
Shortest Lifespan ever seen:
1989(?) Mustang - 12 miles, 20 minutes (factory defective motor).
Longest Lifespan ever seen:
(Tossup)
1971 Toyota - close to 1 million miles (last time I saw it) and still running.
1961 Benz - (supposedly) over 1 Million Miles (claimed close to 2 million) some form of Taxi / Delivery car from Europe; the body finally gave up (just too much work) the motor (last I knew) was still driving around in another car.

As little as twenty years ago cars lasted only about ten years or 120,000 with lots of maintence. Cars today with modern sealed bearings at the wheels, computer controled fuel systems, platinum spark plugs and with miniun maintence just oil and air filter changes run better in all conditions that has made the cars last much longer with fewer repairs Many new cars should last 250,000 miles or over ten years, People drive more now there cars are reliable

At least 10 years. My last one was a Pontiac sunbird station wagon. Lasted me 22 years then blew a head gasket and over heated. ( I had over 300000 miles on it.) Just bought a new little Chevy. I hope to get the same out of it. I am going to try.

It depends on the brand and how you maintain it.

I had a NISSAN BLUEBIRD for 18 years and it
had 380000 kilometres on the clock.

Still worked well when I sold it.

it depends on the vehicle, when it was made and how well it is maintained - some are only designed for short life, some pretty long
