That depends on what kind of love you are talking about. In the Greek, there are three forms of the word love, agape, philo, and eros. Agape love is the type of God displays to rebellious human beings. Or the kind of devotion a husband gives to his wife.(Men the Bible holds high standards for married men. See Ephesians 5:22-33) Philo is brotherly love, that is love between people. Eros is the sexual aspect of love. The type of relationship can, but not always determine the kind of love. In the marriage, all three forms are present, in friendships, only eros love is absent.

to love a person (should) mean(s) wishing and perhaps helping it to develop and achieve its human identity, which includes the ability of being independent and free. Thus loving a person is just the opposite of possessing a person. Loving someone means feeling with him/her, listening to him/her, wanting him/her to be happy on his/her opinions, not on ours. Love implies deep respect, too. "Passion" is just another kind of matter.
