You don't. Plenty of people don't have them and are doing just fine without them. However if you do want one, talk to your friends who have them, and see what features them have on them, and decide on your needs from that.I have just the basic , no frills model, and I can do whatever I need to do on it.

The answer to this question will really vary, based on what you hope to do with a home PC. If you are looking to surf the net, do e-mail, and write some letters, then a bare bones($500) PC from Dell or Gateway will be fine. If you are looking to work with digital photography or use an MP3 player this will require more hard drive space(60 to 80 gigs) and more memory(1 to 2 gigs). Game playing and video editing will require even more, with machines running $1500 to $2000. Hope this helps.

Depends on what you're going to use it for.
The only thing you ABSOLUTELY need is an operating system. And that will come with the computer.
