NO....not a good way to start a job. I would go unless I was just deathly ill.

Unless you have a very contagious disease, drag your pain-wracked body to work, make do as best you can, and go back the next day and the next and the next. You are on probation for the first 6 months of any job. If you want to remain employed, you show up for work every day for those first 6 months, and then you'll have earned the right to take off if you're "not feeling well." There are too many healthy, willing-to-work-through- anything people out there who would be happy to take over your job and trust me, your employer will find them just the way he/she found you.

"Not feeling well" is not a reason to call off from work, new job or not. I've gone into work with alcohol poisoning before and with strep throat and bronchitis all at once and I still made it through the day.
The only time you should leave work/not go in to work is if you are puking or fainting.
Otherwise, you need to suck it up and work through the discomfort.
By calling off, you are showing your boss you are not a good employee and by doing so when you just started the job is a good way to damage your relationship with your boss right off the bat.
Suck it up and do your job.

Tell your employer, but do not call out unless you need to go to the hospital. This gives a bad impression that can take months or a year to overcome (happened to a co-worker of mine).
If your employer tells you go home, take them up on the offer, but you should still report on time.

It does NOT bode well to be absent from a job you have just been hired. It gives the employer a bad impression of you, so don't do it unless you really are sick.

Yes. As a matter of fact, I would even call out when I was feeling well.

Well it depends on if it is the first week. If it is the first week, you tough it out and tell your supervisor that you are not feeling well. If it lasts on to the second week then you need to take a few days off. By telling your manager that you are sick, they will understand.

Depends on how sick I am. If I thought the employer would look down upon me, I would go in and let the employer send me home.

No, if it is a new job I wouldn't. I live in Kentucky and we would say "call in". Just Southern, I guess. :)

no because some people think that if you call in sick early on that you are lying and are lazy and just didn't want to come to work
