Get some self respect & get a job. That just about sums it up.
I don't know why people are content with staying on benefits until the "right" job comes along - if only life was that easy. We are no longer in the 60s, we can't pick & choose, we just have to take whatever job comes along.
No matter what the job is that you uptake, you will be contributing to the rest of society. All of us workers play a part in it whether we are waiters, cleaners, pen pushers, consultants, delivery drivers - anything at all.
Disability doesn't come into it (unless you have no arms or legs) there is a job out there somewhere for you.
There are plenty of schemes where you will be helped into employment, regardless of your past (you might have never had a job before), just pop along to your nearest careers service providers, or job centre, & they WILL help.
Go for it, it will improve your self esteem no end :-)

I had this problem at the beginning or the year. You have to speak to all the offices that you claim benefit from. Tell them you no longer need it. Follow this up in writing. Make copies of all letters and send them recorded delivery.
Certain benefits will carry on being paid at a reduced rate for a few weeks when you get a job.

Take a job - ANY job. No matter how humble it may be, you will be working to support yourself.
If it is unpleasant, stick with it but keep looking elsewhere.
Nothing is forever.
Alternatively go and study something that might lead to a job.
It's tough to jump without the safety net but you will probably do just fine.
In a short time you will feel much better about yourself.
People need to work and have a purpose.
I wish you the very best of luck.
Now get out there!

If you've been on benefits for a long time, you may need to learn to get into the routine of the working day and develop your confidence. Get an appt with the Employment Office and see what help they can give you. For example: New Deal and other courses and vocational training. This will gradually get you used to mixing with others in a "working" environment again, it will help with your understanding of what is required by a future employer, and what is required of you to function successfully in a work environment. It will give you the confidence to help yourself further, and into a permanent job.
You will find that being employed empowers you more than being on benefits.
Good luck.

It is hard, you become unemployed so you sign on the dole, then your rent gets payed by housing benefit. If you get a job, you rent immediately stops and you have to find the money to pay BEFORE you have your first months wages. You pay council tax and rent and you are no better off than you were on the dole, only now you are working full-time......It is a horrible position to be in and without the help of people around you it is impossible to get out of the loop!!

Easy. You simply stop being a scrounger and start being a worker. Of course, you might have to give up the fags and the booze and the 42" plasma TV, SKY and the home cinema sound system that we've all bought for you, but never mind, you'll get over it. Eventually. And then you'll know what it's like to have to support yourself/family. I know I'm sounding nasty, but I'm right, aren't I ! ! !
