update #1
35*8=280
x+x+8=280
2x=272
x=136
x+8=144
or alternativel\y:
x+y=280
x-y=8
add the two above and you get:
2x=288
x=144 => y=144-8=136

Let: X = one number
Let: Y = second number
Then 1) Y - X = 8 (difference of the two numbers)
Then 2) ( X + Y ) / 8 = 35 (1/8th of their sum is 35)
From 1) X = Y - 8
Substitute this into 2) ( ( Y - 8 ) + Y ) / 8 = 35
Solving for Y = 144
Substitute this to solve for X = 136

Amazing how people can pick "homework" type questions :D
1/8th of their sum is 35, so their sum is 280. (35 x 8)
The difference is 8.
So, divide 280 x 2 = 140. That is 1/2 of the total number. The differences is 8 (so divide that by 2) and add/remove that from 140 = 144 and 136.
So the two numbers are 136 and 144.

so 1/8 of sum is 35 so 35x8=280
now do this
diide it by 2
280/2=140
then put numbers that will add up to it and increase one by 1 and decrease the other by 1 see:
140 141 142 143 144
140 139 138 137 136
so the 2 numbers are 144 and 136
best answer rite?

Let one number be x
Therefore, the other number is x+8
According to the question,
(x + 8 + x)* 1/8 = 35
or, 2x +8 =35 *8
or, 2x = 280 - 8
or, 2x = 172
or, x = 136
so, x + 8 = 136+8
= 144
So the numbers are 136, 144

Assume the first no. to be X and the second to be Y.
Hence we get X-Y=8 and 1/8(X+Y)=35, which is
X-Y=8 and X+Y=280
(Add the equations and you will get X=144, now you can get the value of Y, which is 136, by substituting X in any one of the equations)
Hence we get X=144 and Y=136

35 8 8 = 280
280/2 = 140
140-4 (half of eight)=136
136 +8= 144
numbers = 136 and 144

2 no's r 144 and 136.
suppose 2 no's be a and b.
Given a-b=8
and (a+b)/8=35 i.e a+b=280
by solving these 2 eq's u will get a =144 and b=136

I'm not going to tell you the answer but if 1/8 of their sum is 35, try multiplying 35 by 8. That should get you started.

Let the two number be x, y
x - y = 8
Their sum is x + y.
One eight of their sum = (x + y)/8 = 35
That is x + y = 8 * 35 = 280
x - y = 8
x + y = 280
By solving, we get x = 144 and y = 136
Cheers
