Hard to say, the true conservatives (balanced budgts, responsible spending, smaller government) are not in charge of the party anymore. The so called social conservatives dominate teh GOP now a days, but I do not believe for a minute that most of the people actually in power are true social conservaitves any more than they are true fiscal conservatives. They have for years pushed thier agenda at every election, how many times do we have to hear about flag burning, gay marriage and other things that are seemingly more important to the future and health of the United States than health care, forign energy dependence, middle east affairs, and other far less important issues. The simple truth is that they use the wedge issues to get elected, they are in many wasy less liely than democrats to make abortion illegal, or cut every tax taht rich people pay, how would they get elected then?
The population in the US is as a whole fairly progressive, in that they would rather have peace then war, believe in equal rights, woud rather take care of people than not, and despite what the republcans tell us, don't really give a rats a** about flag burning. Your question though asks about conservatives vs liberals, I think that for the most part there are very few people who are completely liberal or completely conservative, most of us reside in the middle smewhere.

I'm the .05 in Kelly's answer.
Seriously, I'm a moderate Independent with conservative leanings.

My impersonators are only liberal Democrats. Children at that. Stick around, you'll see what I mean.

I wouldn't say that conservative Republicans outnumber the others. I'd say it's about even. Some liberal Democrats on here are just louder.

I'm neither, I just want an end to the Bush dictatorship here in America. This crap has gone on long enough, it's time to save this country.
