all you people who say that they are not real are stupid! im not saying that they are but it is possible u dont know! do you know how earth formed? NO but we know it is here, do you know what is behind the stars? NO, but there has to be something. STOP BEING SO NARROW MINDED ONE DAY YOU MAY BE BIT IN THE ***!

Well I believe there could be a few reasons but i will state two that i firmly believe in. First I think the goverment wants to keep quiet about any occurences just in case the come in contact and get technology from them so they can have the upper hand before anyone else does cause thats how goverments operate they either use the technology as a patent so they can make money or military technology to have the upperhand in wars sad but true
Second, I dont want to believe this would happen but people do fear what the dont understand so i believe the goverment wants to keep it quiet so it doesnt cause a mass panic imagine for years and years even though I dont think its possible ALOT of people and religions believe MAN is the only intelligent being in the universe now if people that are deeply rooted in religion and belief suddenly were told that thats not so just imagine man some people out there would just go crazy over it. Not everybody in this world is open minded sadly.
I believe we still long off from getting visited the world still fights itself to much now if anything visits of course they could probably destroy us without much trouble but that may not be what they want but they want to make it peaceful now look how some fanatics take on cultures over diffrences even small one they kill others over that ****, imagine if your a race of beings from far away and you come across this planet and watch these humans killing each other because of in my opinion stuid B.S. would you wanna drop down and say hello. Hehe i wouldnt. Man kind still has alot of growing up to do. I just hope we dont annalitate ourselves before that happens...

If they said they exist they would have to show compelling evidence to support their claim, and they would have to tell the people how they were going to ensure that the aliens were not a threat. Since nobody has compelling evidence, and certainly nobody has compelling evidence that there wouldn't be any threat, they're not going to do this.
If they said they might exist, lots more people than currently would think that they did exist, and would likewise demand to know how they were going to protect them.
Clearly, the only possible course for governments is therefore to say they don't exist. This would probably be the most politically expedient thing to do even if they knew for a fact that they existed.

Because there is no convincing evidence that they exist. It is easy to mistake an object in the sky for something else. One evening I was stargazing and thought that I saw an airplane. The next night, I saw it again, and of course it could not be an airplane. So I eyeballed its position with respect to Polaris and Cassiopeia, and found it on a star chart.

Because they originally hid things that they thought the public could not handle. Eventually the military got control of the information and keeps it hidden, even from congress and the president. Now, if it were to be reveled then it would prove that the government has been lying to us, and they don't want to do that.

It is because the government as well as scientists do not want to admit that parascience is a legit field of study, and so therefore deny that any such things are real.

People are scared of what they don't understand.
The government denies the claims because they don't want the panic spreading.
I believe if and when they understand and learn enough about extraterrestrials they will come clean with the public.

I hope politicians don't spend their time on such issues. But maybe they have some scientific advisers that can tell them that superstition is most likely to be wrong. Just in case they need to know, which the probably don't.
