amazon do indeed have some free ebooks you can read. try the following link:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/browse/-/512084/102-8726075-1416960

some are offered in adobe reader format (pdf files) others you need the free microsoft reader which is linked on the amazon.com pages.

other sites with free e-books include:
http://www.gutenberg.org/
http://etext.lib.virginia.edu/ebooks/
http://www.e-book.com.au/freebooks.htm
http://www.free-ebooks.net/
http://www.planetpdf.com/free_pdf_ebooks.asp?CurrentPage=1
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=lang_en&safe=active&q=free+ebooks&btnG=Search

you'll find most of them are older books or well known classics that are now in the public domain.

I am not sure about amazon.com but if you have a favorite author or one you would like to check out, many authors put excerpts from their books online. You can sometimes find 1-2 whole chapters online and this may help give you an idea of whether you will like the book or not to go buy it. Just go to the author's main website.

Try the library. You can take out books for free. You can hold the books in your hand and read them at your leisure. And they sell books, too -- for like 25¢ each. You can also get DVDs and CDs and cassettes and movies and all sorts of wonderful things. And the best part is, there's one near you. Try it -- you'll like it.
