Mine is probably Feist's original Riftwar trilogy (Magician, Silverthorn, Darkness At Sethanon), but I'm interested in what others think.

Well, Lord of the Rings is definitely my very favorite, due to its depth of backstory and thoughtful humanity. I doubt you'll ever see another quite like it.

As to others, probably Ursula LeGuin's Earthsea Trilogy. Yes, trilogy. Tehanu sucks rocks, and I admit to not reading book 5 yet because of that.

Michael Moorcock's Elric series is fantastic, with an excellent cosmology to boot.

The original Dragonlance Trilogy is really well done, and even better if you've done some gaming in your life.

I also very much enjoyed Lousie Cooper's Time Lord Trilogy, but you'll find it's out of print. If you can pick it up used, it's very good.

David Eddings...The Belgariad which has five books, which are:

1, Pawn of Prophecy
2, Queen of Sorcery
3, Magician's Gambit
4, Castle of Wizardry
5, Enchanters' End Game

But I also love the others The Malloreon and The Elenium by David Eddings, so it is a hard choice.

Apart from the Lord of the Rings trilogy, I became obsessed with Kate Forsyth's 'Witches of Eileannan', absolutely brilliant. She's an Aussie author. It's also so refreshing to have a female protagonist.
My man loved the Riftwar trilogy too!

Terry Brooks' Heritage of Shannara series. It's quite mediocre compared to D&D books but it's still good.

Philip Pullman's His Dark Material Trilogy; the Harry Potter books, of course, and I really, really liked Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman.

Hi there. I'm the author of a new medieval fantasy series that you might like. The first title is THE BLACKGLOOM BOUNTY. It's 445 pages of action, adventure, magic, mystery and mayhem. If you like Conan, LOTR or Harry Potter type books, this is one you'll enjoy.

Good luck, whatever you decide to read!

Jon F. Baxley (Author, Editor, Ghostwriter and Proofreader)

THE SCYTHIAN STONE (eBook only)
THE BLACKGLOOM BOUNTY (eBook and hard cover)
THE REGENTS OF RHUM (coming fall '07)

Major Media Reviews:

Publishers Weekly

STARRED Review. A fast pace, sly humor, amusing dialogue and a richly researched background lift Baxley's fantasy, the first of a new series set in medieval Britain. When Merlin's long-ago apprentice Kruzurk Makshare (aka the Boozer) receives a dreamlike visitation from the legendary mage, he learns he must destroy another former apprentice, the villainous Seed of Cerberus. To do so will require a visit to the demon-guarded Blackgloom Keep. Enter young Daynin McKinnon, who discovers a curious rune-covered headstone, which may be the fabled Blackgloom Bounty, and brings it to Kruz's attention. Kruz believes it will provide entry into the fortress, while Daynin hopes the sale of the stone will restore his family's fortunes. The colorful cast of good guys and ne'er-do-wells includes the Pictish ghost of Brude McAlpin liberated from his tomb, assorted pursuing Caledonians and a bemused Prior Bede, whose monastery serves as a hiding place for the Blackgloom Bounty. Suitable for fantasy enthusiasts of all ages.

King Fortis the Brave is great (only the first book is out so far, but it's supposed to be a series.

Harry Potter and Eragon are also good choices.

My favorite novel is the Lord of the Rings (which is not a trilogy, but rather a book with three seperate parts that can be split to look like a trilogy.) Deeply stirring, wonderful book.

I assume you want a serious answer unlike the ones you have so far. The best I've read to date is the Thomas Covenant series by Stephen Donaldson. Thomas' journey makes Frodos with the ring look like a walk in the park.
