Hi. No, you can't. It's a shame, I know, but the place it's just like a book store, only on the net. That's why they'll try and make books really attractive to you (unlike many other online book stores, they let you see the index, some excerpts and the book cover of some boooks), but they won't let you read the all online. It'd great of they did ;) , but they wouldn't make money any more, or they would be switching to a different kind of company, which, anyway, would cost you money. Searchin' books on the net or in programmes like Ares (Kazaa is no longer a friend of free sharing)is useful, but not always. Books on the net, that I know are only old books, for which authors and their descendants don't have the intellectual property rights anymore. In Ares you can download some newer books, but only the best selling ones; and only SOME of them... I've tried to find a site like the one you're looking for, for a long time... and I know it's bad news, but in my case it hasn't worked. i wish you luck, tough. But I think that a great number of the books you want to read will have to be bought. Alibris sells used, new and out of print books, and even the newer books can be found used at lower prices. Try that one. If you live in the US is even better, 'cause the fleet is not so expensive.
Hope I've helped you,
D.

Yes, amazon.com offers some free e-books for you to download. As well as some free mp3s, in case you're interested. But of course, the most popular ones are not for free! :))

Just a few random pages in the book to see if you like it or not . . . what about your public library?
