You know when there's a definite bulge in the guy's mid-section and his eyes look kind of glazed.
Seriously, if he's attracted to you, you'll know. Guys are a lot easier than women that way. If you're in doubt, ask. You'll get a straight answer from 9 outta 10 guys. Trust yer female intuition :)

I once had a great friend whom I thought was brilliant - he is a writer, definitely in the twisted brainiac department. He was painfully shy, so we communicated via email. He thought I was clever enough to co-write a book with him, and so we started roughing out some ideas.
Within a couple of weeks he wrote in an email that he loved me... I didn't realize that by complimenting him on his intelligence, he understood it as flirting with him. Egads!
Sadly, I had to tell him the feeling wasn't mutual, that I was dating someone else. He went all weird and accused me of trashing his heart, and never wanted me to contact him again... it was all so ugly and hurtful... I really miss the friendship part.
I guess I should have been watching for the signs, but I just didn't see it coming. So... keep your eyes open for uncommon forms of communication. My advice in retrospect.

before one can answer such a question you have to take into consideration that although many guys are exactly the way we're made out to be; not all of us are like that. With many guys (of what I've seen) it's pretty obvious the way they think. They either will talk to you or act stupid around you if they think your do-able (you know what I mean) or they will treat you like an animal if you aren't pretty enough for them. As for the rest of us -- namely the rare smarter males (we're a dying breed) -- it's not as easy to tell if we like you; but usually guys like me will probably be nice to you if we're interested and actually allow you (probably even ask you if they work up the courage) to come over to their house by yourself if they are absolutely enthralled by you.
