some of your not reading the question people. Yes they do let women in and yes they do go through the same tough training as the men, but training is just that. TRAINING. put them in a real situation and see what happens. I have been there and seen it. Its peoples live at stake if they are not up to the job, so what would you rather have. the P.C brigade being kept happy or real people being kept safe?

let's simply face the facts. on average, men are stronger and more capable of fightig fires than women. i'm not saying all women are weaker, but the vast majority are. if i'm in a fire, i want a big strong guy to haul my big fat butt out of the building. i know for a fact that no avrage woman could do that.

i have personally seen some standards become lax in the recent years. this is really bad. there are some jobs that should not ield to be PC. the worst one lately is policemen. lately, women have entered this field. as a close friend of policemen, i have personally seen how women-cops are more apt to rly on their gun than a man counterpart. this causes some problems where you have a twitchy female with a gun. this just screams the headline "woman cop gunned down three innocent teenagers" or something.

i'm not saying this to start a flame war. i'm simply stating my observations of problems as a result of this.

They weren't allowed to be firefighters because that is a job where physical strength is a distinct advantage, and most women don't have much. The fact that women are allowed to do it today is, in my opinion, a grave mistake. I agree with what Katherine Hepburn had to say on the subject: 'Women should act the way they are. Their brains are just as good as men's. They could accomplish practically anything a man could accomplish. I mean, they can write, they can paint, they can play tennis so goddamn good. I just hope women don't try to become men. I go mad when they become firemen, and I think of myself in this house if it was burning and women were holding the net.'

There are men who could handle the work firefighters do. There are men who would crumble under the pressure. There are women who could handle the work firefighters do. There are women who would crumble under the pressure. You can't stereotype based on gender. Until a psychological battery of tests can prove that you will not be able to handle the pressure of a real life situation, you have to allow anyone who can get through the training to do the job, otherwise you are making gross assumptions about a persons abilities based on their gender, which is just wrong. Except in the case that female comedians are just not funny.

I believe that only people skilled and able to perform at the required level should do this job regardless of their gender. Being a man does not make you any better qualified.

Surely firefighters like others, are monitored in their performance ongoing and the public well being is priority of the service?

Talking about the 'PC brigade' is rather flippant. It is also derogatory to infer that those members of society dedicated to improving the lot of everyone regardless of creed, colour, sexuality or gender, could contribute to a lack of safety due to their misaligned priorities.

Yes, I think women should be a firefighter, but if it is going to come down to a real situation and they chicken out and some Innocent person dies because of it. No I do not want them being firefighters or any thing they are interested in and then chicken out at the last moment people count and look up to people like that. I wouldn't want to be in a burning place and have to help the women firefighter out when she supposed to be helping me.

Real people being kept safe of course.......but if a woman can do the job then everyone is happy.
Im a woman, and I beleive a woman can do anything a man can do,but being a firefighter I would think they need a bit more training
on the mental aspect of the job, physically as well because it is about a whole lot more than a tv program..

Its not the job for me, I admit, but I don't see why certain women can't be just as good at the job as certain men. There are guys out there who would make bloody awful firemen, equally there are some women who would make bloody brilliant fire... erm... people!!

It takes a special type of person to do the job and put their lives on the line for the sake of others and I am thankful to all of them, male or female!!

You've posted several questions about firefighters...?? Are you wanting to become one or just have a fixation on them? Of course women should be allowed to be firefighters. There are some male firefighters who probably aren't up to the job either.

In theory yes, anybody regardless of sex should be able to do anything if there are suitable or capable of doing the same job. No one should get a job just becuase they are a woman or just becuase they are a man. Many women will not be able to be a firefigher, but there are some who are.

A person, regardless of gender, if they can do the job should be allowed, some men can't. The fire service looks after each others backs regardless you all rely on one another.P.C. is just some much crud anyway.

It's not a matter of women functioning in a dangerous situation. It's a matter of physical strength.
In many cases the physical requirements have been lowered so that women may qualify. I don't think that is right. Common sense over PC any day.
