Mucilage glue is vegetable based, it comes from the water extract of plant material. It has a short shelf life, you can tell when it goes bad by the smell. I learned this in art school but don't remember why! Not sure which vegetable or plant it comes from, so maybe it IS a fruit based glue. It can be found in art supply or perhaps office/school supply stores.

fruit peelings - not sure, but I know that boiled or baked potato can be used as a glue.

I think glue can be made from cellulose. Whether it's any good for pasting anything but wallpaper to a wall needs to be researched.

you can't make glue from fruit peelings!...only from a horse...and that wouldn't be very nice now would it.

In Mexico, the "piñata" (decorated clay pot) craftsmen uses a paste called "engrudo" made with wheat white flour and water.
Boil both five minutes and apply with paintbrush.
