Wive's tales?

Question

I would like for you to share the old wive's tales about determining the baby's gender, and even better, wive's tales about carrying twins. Especially would like wive's tales about twins.

I am not actually expecting any of them to be accurate, I just want to see what people have been saying before they were able to find out through modern marvels like ultrasounds. :)

The Pencil test ...(Just like the ladies answer above about the needle and string acrossed the womans belly only we use the wrist) This is the test where you have a needle with a string attached to a pencil and you wave it over the women's wrist and it should tell the sex of every child she has had! It was right with me !

** Your Anatomy
If your left breast is bigger than your right breast, during pregnancy, it's more likely that you're having a girl. If the right is bigger, it's probably a boy. And what if both breasts are the same size? Hey, you may be in for ''double trouble''!

Mood Swings
If you feel particularly moody during pregnancy, you're more likely to have a girl. Clearly, this is not an old wives tale to be taken to heart!

Resting During Pregnancy
Which side does the pregnant woman prefer to lie on, while resting? If she prefers her left side, it's a boy; her right, it's a girl.

Mother's Age At Conception
If the mother's age, at conception, and the year of conception are both even or both odd, the baby is a girl. If one is even and one is odd, then the baby is a boy.

Pendant Theory
Dangle a pendant over the palm of the mother's hand. If the pendant rotates in a circular motion, it's going to be a girl. If it swings backwards and forwards, it's more likely to be a boy.

Conception and Aggression
If the woman was the more aggressive partner, at conception, the baby will be a boy. If the father was the more aggressive, then the baby will be a girl.

Salty Or Sweet?
A salty diet, prior to conception, increases a woman's chances of having a boy. (Warning! Don't do this if you're on a salt-restricted diet!) Alternatively, a largely sweet diet, before conception, is said to produce more girls. However, there are better ways if gender selection is your objective.

Baby Position
If you carry the baby "out front" it's a boy. If people can tell that you are pregnant, when looking at you from behind, then you're carrying a girl.

Baby's Heart Rate
Over 140 beats per minute for a girl, less than 140 for a boy. No firm evidence exists for this theory, but it's a fascinating possibility, nonetheless!

If the woman grows big all around -it is a boy
If the stomache only grows big- it is a girl


If you take a needle and thread, hold the end of the thread, so that the needle is about an inch from the woman's palm. let the tip of the needle touch the palm of the woman's hand 3 times very lightly. If the needle swings back and forth, it is boy, if in a circular motion - girl

My grandmother would tie my wedding band on a string and hold it over my tummy. If the band would swing back and forth it is a boy and if it would swing in a circular pattern it was a girl. It worked two out of three times.

Also they would look at the shape of your stomach and if it were all out front - Boy.
If you were more rounded as to be able to tell you were pregnant from behind you - then Girl.

My mom said that if you do it at night it will be a girl, and in the morning, a boy
and if your belly is really fat while your pregnant its a boy, and if your belly is fattest at the bottom part of your stomach its a boy
i dont think these are true though!!!
i dont know any about twins though
