women have a place in the police force. They can be good in situations where negotiation is needed or a situation needs defusing, they have lots of other skills to. however other than doing admin or fire control(and just let me say those ladies do a fine job) i see no reason for women to be firefighters, unless they are built like a brick outhouse and could drag a 17 stone man out of a burning building whilst wearing full B.A . I know for a fact there are very few of these ladies out there, so why the f**k do we allow them in.! and please dont tell me its P.C because i can see nothing P.C about putting people at risk. Because believe me when it all goes **** up in a job, you want someone who can get you out not some little girl who cant weild an axe or kick a door in or reach the top of the locker on the truck to make up the equipment, and believe me they exist. And before i get a boll***ing i know of 1that is as strong as any man i`ve met indeed she may be a man. So you views pleas

I'm a former U.S.Marine 0311 Infantryman. All though we are not Navy Seals we are alike as far as combat effectiveness. I don't think that women could't hack the training. I'm sure they could. The only problems I see is the simple fact of the female body cycle not to be crewed but there monthly periods not to mention other hygiene issue that would arise. For example while I was in Iraq there were very lengthy times that we could not shower the longest being 5 months. Our only source of bodily hygiene came in the form of baby wipes. Try to picture that in a very dirty hot environment were the temperature could reach 120 degrees plus. The other issue that I could see is the sheer physical brutality that every infantryman has to go through on a daily basis. The physical stresses can be very overwhelming. By this I mean that the average Marine Infantryman is required to force match at a very brisk pace with a full combat load that can exceed 125lbs for over 25 miles. This comes down to average body weight, and correct me if I'm wrong but the average female body weight is around 130 were a males is 175. A man stature is often built more for this type of abuse. I understand your interest in this subject and I believe that women are just as capable as men in this world. On the other hand G.I. Jane is a Hollywood movie dealing with a very Hollywood made story. The business of war is very serous and when a person can not pull there weight this will cost many peoples lives so I understand why the military keeps Combat jobs open only to men.

yes they should. they have to undergo rigorous training just like the men do to ensure they are up to lifting people and rescuing them. i don't think the fire service would let in "some little girl who can't weild an axe or kick in a door" as you say. I think they would already have though about this before letting women into the fire service.

Besides if you were trapped in a burning building you would be grateful for any help be it from a man or woman! I think you should think about what these girls (and guys) are actually doing - they are risking their lives daily to save others that they do not even know. Can you say you do the same on a daily basis? I know I can't!

Why shouldn't they be allowed to if they want to. Granted a woman is not as strong as a man but fighting fires is not all about running into a burning building and carrying people out. It is part of the job but not the only part. woman are just as capable as men and go through the same training as the men. you'll probably also find that firefighters tend to go into the building with at least one other firefighter in case they need help or run into difficulty.

I think women firefighters should be allowed, but they must be able to do anything a male firefighter could be asked to do. Thye should have a load of tests, i don't know if they do already, but they should be of the same standard in everything as a male firefighter

Definitely so yes. I know some who already are. I do understand what you are saying with regards to strength etc but they go through the same vigourous training as the men and do not get taken on for statistics sake. They have to prove just as much if not more that they are up to the job

If a woman can do a job to the required standard then they should be allowed and if they can't they should be binned. Common sense. I'm amazed there are women in the service who can't do the job.
Aren't their flaws highlighted in training?

they should be allowed to at least go through their interview and try the job. Then when they get the job if they are not good enough they can be told. at least that would be fair. otherwise its discrimination

If one were to be honest, most women would struggle to put a cigarettte out , never mind a major blaze. This is not sexist. only women with a certain level of testosterone would be suited to this career.
