If running Windows XP, you'll need at least double that for it to work well... and if your computer uses onboard graphics built into the motherboard (borrows a portion of your RAM to power it) a graphics card might help things (and free up some RAM + processing power in the process)..... doesn't have to be anything too special...... a £30 nVidia GeForce6200 or something along those lines should do the trick (providing your motherboard supports it).
Assuming you're in the UK, look up some of the goodies @ http://www.overclockers.co.uk
If on the other side of the Atlantic, then try http://www.newegg.com
Also, try running a scan at http://www.pcpitstop.com to help identify any problems with your computer

It sounds like you're getting low Frames Per Second (FPS).
You'll need to try and get better/more:
GPU (Video Card)
CPU (Central Processing Unit)
RAM (Random Access Memory)
You'll also need to clean your operating system of any malware that slows it down.
Upgrading your computer to a super-fast one can be an upwards of $1,000, so if you're willing to seperate between computer and gaming, try to get an XBOX360 or a PS3 or something like that.
Good Luck

there can be few main reason for lower game quality
1>low ram avalability due to many programs at startup
2> higher requirement of game such as graphic accelrator card
3>low disk spaceie less space for caching files
4>low space alloted for pagefiles
5>the setting of game itself
i suggest if u are not much aware about computer
try using software like system mechanic (free trail available)
www.iolo.com
it will manage u r startup ..........easy to use
I THINK THIS WILL WORK FOR U , except for condition 2 if applicable
if u know abt computers
increase page file size
free u r unnecessary startup programs manually.....like music and messenger clients notifications etc
try your luck

1st, you need a seperate graphics card rather than onboard.
anything is better than onboard.
2nd, 512 or more of ram is a must
so, 2gig cpu, 512-1gig ddr ram, 1\2 decent graphics card.($100+)

First try to re-install your VGA card driver. If it didn't solve your problem, Try to upgrade your ram(s) or upgrade your VGA card to a newer one.
If this didn't solve your problem, You can log on to a websithe which has many computer experts can help you: http://www.underline.4t.com/troubleshooter.htm .
