That is not a good idea especially if they were not together in the first place. One may eat the others babies. There are some rats that will help each other with the babies but if you have never tried this I would not suggest it.

Well, if you want them to eat their babies you should definitely put them in the same cage.

My grandma had rats and when she went to change the rats bedding, the mom rats put the babies in their cheeks. The poor rats couldn't breathe until my grandma pushed them out of the moms cheeks. In the process she got bit and got so bad she threw the mom rat out the door.

I suggest to put their cages next to each other so they can still see each other.

Absolutely. In fact, they will also tend to take care of each others young. Sometimes, the strongest female will completely take over both litters, or if one of the mothers gets pregnant again while still nursing.

I have 8 mice myself. I breed them to feed my royal ball python (til she stepped up to rats) and my bearded dragon. So now, I do the same with my male and 3 female rats.

Yes provided you take care to watch them,if the mothers start to react then separate them into a different cage but keep both cages together.
Does with kittens are normally OK if they have been with them from birth but the bucks will kill their offspring.
Also 2 mothers might clash again just keep your eye on them.

Good Luck

did the females know each other before???

if they did chances are good that they will just mother together, if they have never met, but if they are new to each other...one might prevent the other from feeding enough to supplement her babies, food chain and all that, pecking order.
