Love involves a whole range of emotions which are positive for another person. Love includes periods of lust. Lust is simply the sexual drive bringing men and women together, but involves also a special sex attraction which causes a girl and boy to physically feel like coming closer and even having sexual relations.

As far as the scientists have chimed in mature love can be broken down into three components: passion, comitment and intimacy. Lust tends to be only passion, with little comitment and all to often no sharing of ones true self (intimacy)
I think a better answer is that love is "that sacred condition where another persons happyness is essential to your own" and lust is mostly wanting to releive a personal desire. The quote is from Robert Heinlein.

Love and lust are being used interchangeably by the present generation who has lost the meaning of love. Love is others-centered while lust is self-centered. Love is unconditional while lust is conditional. Love seeks to give while lust seeks to get. Love is 'in spite of' while lust is 'because of'. Love forgives while lust hurts. Love is eternal while lust is temporal.
The best description of love can be found found in the Bible in 1Corinthians 13:1-8. The Bible says, "God is love" and He demonstrated it in the person of Jesus.
