I am looking for a video game system for my 7 year old, he has slow developing motor skills, and the doctor said the hand eye coordination involved with video games would help, he loves to play online games, but I'd like to get a game system for him to use. I grew up with Nintendo and Super Nintendo, the crap out today just blows my mind, should I try to find an old super nintendo, or is there a better choice?

Nintendo Gamecube.... or the upcoming Nintendo Wii

With the PS2 & XBOX..... most of their games are adult oriented (e.g. racing games accurate racing games like Gran Turismo + other styles of games with Limbs being hacked off, etc)........ Nintendo has always been more "kid friendly".

The Gamecube can be picked up pretty cheap now (I picked one up for about £35 last summer), though it can be an absolute pain in the butt finding anyone on the high street still selling games for it (so I mostly buy them from AMAZON + Ebay, which are cheaper anyway most the time).

Suitable games i recommend are:
- Super Mario SunShine (8.0 rating on Gamespot.com)
- Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (rated 9.2)
- Zelda: collectors Edition (disk with NES + N64 versions of the Zelda games + a demo of "WIND WAKER" for gamecube).
- The Simpsons: Hit & Run
- Mario Kart: Double Dash
More can be found here: http://uk.gamespot.com/gamecube/index.html

If you hang on for the Wii, it'll play Gamecube games as well as it's own + you'll also be able to download and play games from the older systems like you can with music on an iPOD

Alternatively, the Nintendo DS has some damn good games for it too, can be taken anywhere...... battery life is fairly good on mine (recharge for 4hrs on a Friday...... doesn't really need doing again until the following week)...... being able to touch & feel and stuff is part of the idea behind behind it with the touchscreen operation, and there's some GREAT games for it, such as:
- MarioKart DS (got it)
- Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time (got it..... really good)
- Super Mario64 DS (based on the N64 game, with updates)
- New Super Mario Brothers (first 2D platformer Mario game in 14years!!!!)
- The Sims2
- Star Fox Command (coming soon... based on the SNES game)
- The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
- Age of Empires: The Age of Kings
and many more are in the works + you can also play Gameboy Advanced games on it :-)

Or of course there's always the PC...... can get joypads, joysticks & steering wheels to play PC games on them (instead of via keyboard & mouse), and there's some great games out there both old & new.

I would go for Playstation ... if you have a PS2 you can play the old games of a PS1. That means that you van play for ever.
