It's not a maths question. The answer is extremely ambiguous, and could be interpreted any number of ways - and this is deliberate, because

(a) while they work out all the possible answers before the puzzle goes on the air, they don't need to decide which is the correct answer before they start, ensuring that dozens of callers throw their money away on them;

(b) when the time comes to actually decide which is the correct answer, all they have to do is to let one of the staff make the call. It automatically gets accepted: and no matter how outlandish the answer, it's the right one. The "prize money", if it exists in the first place, goes right back into the prize pot.

This is why these shows are nowadays being investigated by the Gambling Commission as unregulated lotteries. The answer isn't one you can work out - it's a lottery, and you just have to be one of the lucky ones to pick one of the right answers.

If it's all not just a con, that is, which is what I'm inclined to believe.

It's either 25 or 20.

A)
Nineteen minus five = 14
4 + 3 X 2 = 10
6 - 5 = 1
giving 14+10+1 = 25

B)
4 + 3 + 2 + 6 + 5 = 20

well, the obvious answer would be 19-5=14, 4 + 3 x 2 = 10 (times first) and 6-5=1 add the answers and get 25 BUT if its add the numbers, it may be 2+3+4+5+6=20 OR add the 19 and 5 as well so 44

I think the answer is 25:

19 - 5 = 14

4 + (3 x 2) = 10 because according to the rules of BIDMAS you multiply before addition

6 - 5 = 1

14 + 10 + 1 = 25 or if there being tricky it could be
1 + 4 + 1 + 0 + 1 = 7

I think.

Is it 73, Add the numbers!
19-5=14, 19+5+14= 38
4+3x2=14, 4+3+2+14=23
6-5=1, 6+5+1= 12
Therefore 73.

What if it's because you just have to add the numbers in the question ie 4 + 3 + 2 + 6 + 5? The answer would then be 20.
