I love biology, but I'm terrible at math; however, I'm very strong at writing. I was thinking or perhaps majoring in English and minoring in Biology. I'd like to write in the fields of biology, natural science, and environmentalism. Is this possible? Is it a bad idea?

If you want to write in the fields of biology, science, etc. you should think about majoring in Biology and minoring in English or Journalism. If you don't have a strong science background, it would be hard to write about it. Biology doesn't require very much math - just basic college algebra for most programs. Plus, when you graduate, there will be more job opportunities with a science degree than there will be with an english degree.

It's not a bad idea nor is it a very good idea. Since biology is also a branch of science and it entails experiments and so on, it might be a problem when it comes to your time (in the future I mean if you plan to teach). However, I think there's no problem at the moment. Most teachers though would tell you to minor in Mathematics. When you plan to teach in the future, you'll see what I mean. I only majored in English. I didn't minor in anything. If given the chance, I'll probably minor in the Arts. There, have I given you an idea?

In most states yes. What you will do is first get your teaching certification in the social science major. Then if you pass the PRAXIS-II in English you can also have that certification.

I agree w/ SSM__8514. Reverse the degrees and you will have a lot more job opportunities after graduation.

don't do something just because you are good at it, do it because you love it and want to do it for a life choice. Unless you are wanting to be a writer or a teacher, what will english do for you?
