i'm turning 20, i'm female and i have a guest list of about 40. i don't want people to assume they're going to get drunk at my party because i don't want drunken fools, which is why i'm unsure what to do.
i want a fun original idea, which can either be at my house (perhaps a theme?) or somewhere else. all suggestions welcome!

The best place to organize a Birthday party is your home. 'coz at a third place you all feel like guests...at home at lest you can play the host. Moreover, I think all the 40 persons in your guest list may not be drunkards, and if you don't like drunk people...your good friends might not be that type.
The best way to enjoy your B'day is to spend it with your friends, be thankful that they spared their precious time for you. be together, chat, and also listen to your favorite music. At the time of party be with some 4-5 people who are not drunkards, you can't entertain all 40 persons at one go...so let others enjoy their drink. For many persons drinking is the only meaningful way of enjoying...so why spoil their fun.

progressive dinners are good go to different places for each meal then end up at a club for the evening. You could have a karaoke night hire a hall , or a vintage night or why not have a mystery bus tour it takes you round diff spots of city stops different clubs an pubs then takes you home end of night . That way if they get drunk you can drop them off any time there not dirtying your place. Or better wait until next year when your 21.

Wow, 40? I'm going to have a tea party for my 21st birthday. We're going to get all fancy, drink tea, eat treats & sandwiches. Though I'll be having close to 4 guests. ;(

let the theme be angels and devils!....but you dont have much luck of keeping the party under control if you have 40 people over.
