So my background is in theatre, has been since I was a boy, hence I have a healthy bias towards theatre, though I'm a big movie fan too.
Say I offered you the money to buy either a ticket to see a theatre show or a ticket for a movie, which would you choose and why?

No contest: theatre. Musicals and plays and live theatre is my passion, and I've been going since I was little. I've been somewhat involved in it throughout my life, but to me nothing compares to seeing someone perform live, and put their all into a performance. It's amazing to be blown away by the skill of a performer, the beauty of a song, and the passion of a show. Sounds trite, but I've seen so many shows, and even when I see something again and again, like Rent, I've still awestruck by how amazing it is.

So anyway, theatre...and now that I live closer to New York, I'm going to be heading to Broadway a lot more often!

I depends on what you are going to see.
At the movies you can see all kinds of special fx that you can't do at the theater. I am bias to the movie ticket only because I have a real wild imagination and I into scifi stuff that you can't do on stage.
But there are some great shows in the theater too. I love classics like The Count of Monte Cristo, and Hamlet and this kind of show has to be seen live in a theater on stage to get the total effect that people bring to the stage when they act.

Definately theatre. I have seen several productions which were both theatre and movie and have always liked the theatre better. The whole atmosphere of the theatre makes the production seem charged. A movie is nice but live performance rocks!

Theater. Nothing like the excitement of the live stage. The real actors, not just images on the screen. And that possibility that anything could happen. (Like we had a "wardrobe malfunction" in our saturday night perfomrance of Once Upon a Mattress. The actresses reaction when she got back stage was - "ticket sales just went up for next weekend").

But like you, my background is theater.

Mostly they show recent movies, like before they are available on netflix, but about the same time that you could see pay per view movies at home.
