Of course you should work on a Bank Holiday. You'd look bloody funny if there was/were no transport, no public utilities (that means things like water, gas, electricity, gas), no medical care or help or shops open, just to mention a few, just because you don't think YOU should work. Or is there something REALLY special about you that precludes you from working on a B/Hol?

It really depends on your contract on employment, however, it is certainly not uncommon for people to get paid double or even time and a half when working on a bank / public holiday!

There is no law against this, however do ask for triple time. You should be paid double time for bank holiday and 1 time for coming in, which means triple time.

am in a similar situation.
firstly check your contract.
then your holiday entitlement.
the october 2005 bill says that employers are not allowed to include the statutory bank holidays in your holiday entitlement so you should be allowed to have the bank holiday off.

It depends on the industry your job is in. And whether you can get there.
If it was me, I wouldn't be able to get there at all. The bus service which I rely TOTALLY upon does NOT run on Bank Holidays.

why not? if you have nothing better to do on that day, better go to work. but be sure that the supervisor has a previous knowledge and approval about it. otherwise, the time worked will be considered as unauthorized and hence will not be compensated accordingly.
