If it's a 650 custom your choices are extremely limited for the time being. Yamaha changed the mounting design of the exhaust system and none of the major manufacturers are offering anything at this time. Vance & Hines 'thinks' that it is basically the same as the California only model and that those pipes 'should' fit with a little modification.

If it's the 650 Classic or the 1100 Custom or Classic then your in pretty good shape. I've had excellent results with Vance & Hines in both product and customer service. Hard Chrome *can* make a good product, but recently I've seen some pretty shoddy workmanship out of them. could just be a bad run, or a disgruntled welder at the factory, but none the less I've had some issues.

Due to pricing a lot of people gravitate towards Cobra, and they aren't bad, but be for warned they aren't the best bang for the buck either. There have been some issues with fit and finish. However, they have recently released some new designs and have supposedly addressed those problems. They are also more expensive than the old style pipes. Truthfully I've only seen those pipes at a couple of shows and expos, so I can't really comment on them.

At any rate, the only way to prevent any blueing at all being seen is to go with a double wall pipe. Read that as more $$$. Installation is pretty straightforward, but can sometimes involve a little...customizing. These are after all, a mass produced product, so you sometimes have the problems associated with that.

Don't forget to re-jet!

Nomad was correct in what he said as well.

I suggest Vance & Hines or Sampson Pipes, the Sampson pipes have heat shields which are full length of the pipes.
If your bike has injected motor you will need to buy a fuel pak unit for it, if is carb. type, you will need to rejet the bike & dyno the motor, also I suggest putting a K&N filter on the bike as well, when changing the exhaust system as make one end less restrictive causing back fires and will run lean. This all causes the pipes to turn blue.

Don't change anything unless the dealer gives you the ok, or you might watch your warrantee go out the exhaust.
