I swore to myself to always be true
But lost all myself when I lost myself in you
8 years now have gone and I'm much stronger inside
I've found myself again, regained my pride
I've lost the desire to hate and resent
All that I said long ago, I meant
I've grown lots inside and it's clear to me now
I think life's got a process, and I know how
It starts with no longer thinking it's about me
I figured that out when my son turned three
I was tucking him in and he said to me
"Daddy, do you remember being three?"
It was there that i knew that he's why I am here
So forgive me if I shed a little tear
It's only that I'm proud of what he'll grow up to be
Healthy and happy and smarter than me
You see, each generation should learn more than the last
And try to learn from the generations of past
If I learn something new each and every day
I know I'll be rady to show him the way
