I think the important newspapers in the Phil are The Philippine Daily Inquirer and The Philippine Star.Newspapers are important in the Phil as well as in most countries in the world because they inform the public of almost everything.Besides, newspapers are cheap and affordable for those who can't afford to buy computers for a daily dose of everyday news and for those also who can't even afford to go to an Internet cafe and surf the Net.

I agree that the Daily Inquirer and the Star are probably the two most relevant newspapers in the Philippines, as well as the Manila Bulletin.

The PDI and the PhilStar are considered independent/non-establishment publications, whose editorial bent tends to be skeptical of the administration in charge. The Bulletin is important in that it seems to be pro-administration, whoever that may be at the moment.
