Normally you would have to have your hard drive formatted in NTFS format before/while you install WindowsXP. If it is not currently that way, there is a few third party programs that can encrypt/password protect files for you. One easy thing that I do is just right click the folder and make it hidden :)
Doing wut that guy says above, does no good if ur drive is not formatted NTFS!

If you are the administrator, you can create an account with a password and then put your files in My Documents. Rightclick the file, choose Properties>General tab>Advanced button>choose the Encrypt option

You may install a program for file compression like Winzip.
Then set up a new file compression folder.
Add your files in and set up a password in the options.
Then only you, who know the password, can access the protected files.

use TrueCrypt
http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/TrueCrypt/TrueCrypt.html
It's free. TrueCrypt creates a password protected storage space. Any file you put into it will be encrypted.Only you will have access to it.
