Definitely not. The pub companies buy their beer dirt cheap from the breweries and then charge their lease-holders (the people who run the pubs) sky-high prices for that same beer. It's the pub landlord who foots the bill for the staff wages and he has to cover all his over-heads so it is the pub landlord not the pub company who has less profit. If the SUPERMARKETS didn't sell beer so cheap then pubs would stand a better chance of getting more punters in. It's a case of supermarkets destroyed the corner shop and now it's the turn of the pubs.

Not really, like most business's they would love to pay staff 50p an hour and keep the rest of the money themselves but without these rules they would do just that.

Minimum wage also ensures that women dont get paid any less than the men (assuming like all pup companies you pay your staff minimum wage).

Business's are like kids, they sometimes need to be told what to do and if it wasnt for the governments rules this kid would keep all the sweeties for themselves.

Not if they are managed at all well. If they cant make a profit with paying the minimum wage, they will certainly lose money if they pay a decent, living wage!

Why would it, paying people a decent wage makes for a happy workforce, a happy smiling face behind a bar brings in the punters, the punters put money in the tills.

Before posing this question Might I venture to suggest that you read Karl Marx' dissertation 'Wages, Prices and Profits'. Having done so, then come back and see if you can ask this question.

Maybe you should pay more and stop employing spotty disinterested 18 year olds who can't add up and waste time serving their underage mates. Hogshead pubs suck especially the one in Lichfield Staffs
