I don't want to be uninformed, but it's all bad news. Plus you can't tell whats propaganda, and whats just crap. I have enough stress, and worries that keep me awake at night. I just can't bring myself to do it.

Some people will only watch CNN, or only watch Fox and will remain ignorant. You have to get your news from more sources than just tv, or you will never be able to make an informed decision about current events. You have the internet, use it. If you hear something on tv that doesn't sound right, fact check it. Many papers are available online, read as much as you can. Most of them have a liberal or conservative slant, make sure you read ariticles from both sides. There is a great deal of disinformation coming from all directions.
You should also read papers from other countries and see how they report on events, you might be surprised at the difference.
Question everything, think about what someone's or some group's motive or agenda might be when they are presenting a story to you.

I do. All I can see in the news are dead people, cataclysm... or football ;o)
So I don't watch the news, and get informed at work, from my colleagues. Or I sometimes buy the newspaper. I like the Courrier International, an international newspaper wich is a compilation of articles form newspaper all over teh world. So for the same event I can have the point of view of france, usa, spain... that's more interesting.

I agree completely. I can't stand watching the news, but I really want to know what's going on in the world. That's what I like reading different countries takes on global news. It gives a clearer picture. It's not perfect, but it helps.
It would be nice if news companies would also broadcast the good things that happen in this world... but that may be asking too much. Oh well.

In order to be informed, one must know the news. It is possible to be done ether by watching TV and reading newspapers, or-and that is the best way-by surfing the Internet. There is a lot of propaganda in the mainstream Western media.

That's why you have to watch, listen, and READ news. You can't just do one and rely on that...

i LOVE the news. It jsut facinates me all the things that are happening around the world while I'm doing something useless.

I read a lot of local news to find out what's going on in my neighborhood. News isn't just about the middle east or bombs going off in other countries.

I guess I also read the news to find out when i should get gas.

Yes indeed. I stopped watching CNN and all the network news because their slant was of opposite sides of my beliefs. Starting watching Fox. It's my favorite but don't really watch it too much anymore because it's so political. I'm glad they are because people on the other side need a channel too. It's just that I don't trust ANY politician. I like the fact that Fox will put both points of view on, even though I slant to the conservative side. With that being said, why are people so cruel to each other just because of political difference.

TV LIES TO YOU!! TV is only trying to sell SUVs and Depends to you, they are not trying to inform you. There is no news on TV! It's all the same gory story day, after day, only with different names and places.
Read to get informed. There are all sorts of left-, right-, and strait up the middle periodicals. For left views, try "The Nation". For a good right wing rant, try "The New Republic. To get strait up, mostly unbiased opinions from around the world, try reading, "The Week".
Log onto BBC World News, or Aljazeera for an Arab viewpoint. There are thousands of other sources if you look for them.
Gather information and decide for yourself. Think for yourself, no-one else will!
TV? - fugetaboutit!

Yes it's hard, but it is life and we need to know what is going on around us. Just limit yourself to the 5:00 news, or whichever you prefer, the 5pm news is usually the most informative without to much of the horrible crap.

Also, if you want to know more, read it online (news) there are none of the pictures to go with it and you can stop reading anytime you like:-)

I never watch the news, I read the paper so I can filter through it as I wish, and I don't have gory pics shoved down my throat

I love watching the news. It does get a little boring sometimes because it's the same thing night after night.
