I've been wanting to quit my job for a very long time, but the problem is, I don't know how to tell my boss. He's the nicest person in the whole world--what should I say? Help!!!

I recently did the same things and here are some thoughts:

1) You are not quitting your job due to him, correct?
2) He might be the nicest person in the whole world but you can't sacrifice career and your happiness bc of how he/she treats you
3) The clear msg you need to get across is that you are leaving the job because it's the right thing for you to do and it's not due to your relationship (professional) with him
4) If he/she is the nicest boss then they will likely be happy for you

When the time comes - have the conversation and start of in the message about what were your thoughts and deciding factors and make sure to stress that it's not because of bad mgmnt or bad relationship...it's that the reasons are x, y, and z.

End by saying that you woudl like to still maintain the connection if possible because they are one of the best people you've worked for and would love their advice periodically.

ive got the same problems, im off to oz in Jan and i have had to build up courage to tell a great boss that im leaving.
Ask your boss if you can have a private word with him and explain that you would like to quit and why, tell him honestly they will have more respect for you. If you have a new job tell him, if you don't like your job tell him.
Honestly really is the best policy where nice bosses are concerned. It won't be easy but you boss will prefere it that way.
Hope it helps.

Will miss you, when I am gone

The time is come for me to say goodbye
Long ago we met saying Hi.
As much as it hurts I have to say
Wish you well and I’m on my way.

Events and moments I take with me
Reminisce with my eyes close and I see.
Sharing thoughts, feelings, anger and all
All through winter, spring, summer and fall.

Fond memories is what I have of you
I’d always speak high & well of you.
Never can think of time that was sour
Your presence will always be even when I am far.

Lessons that I have learnt will always be
Of great value and dear to the future I see.
Each value of you is equally to blame
For making me cry, no not for shame

I will miss you so much; words can’t speak
Nor the tongues can put in words the way I feel
A sense of losing every one of you what can I say,
But then again … I’m getting a post and a better Pay.

If you feel that way for him, i am sure he must be aware of your impression about him & acknowledge. Him being nice which u r seeing as a hurdle, in fact can make it easy for you.

Be straight forward & professional. Tell him that you love to work with him/her and that he/she has taught you a lot to be able to what you are today. Thank him for it.
Then say, it's a professional & competitive world & u need to move ahead to grow. To take up newer challanges, else anyone's career becomes stagnant. There is no place for stagnancy in this world.

Say thanks for everything and quit gracely, i am sure he/she will support you.

tell him that you think he is a great boss and that you have enjoyed working with him. but you need to be able to move on and create better opportunities for yourself in life. make sure you give him two weeks notice, this is the courteous thing to do.

Do it properly. Write a letter of resignation, and give 2 weeks notice. Give it to him in person and express your appreciation to him for the opportunity and for being such a good boss and you hope to keep in touch.

Tell him you are qyuitting and the reason why. If it's a money issue maybe he may offer more. It's going to sting him but life goes on.
