Opponents of President Bush and his Iraq policy have jumped on a comment last week by Gen. John Abizaid, commander, U.S. Central Command, before the Senate Armed Services Committee: "I believe that the sectarian violence is probably as bad as I've seen it, in Baghdad in particular, and that if not stopped, it is possible that Iraq could move toward civil war."
Ignored in most of the media coverage was what Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said at the same hearing: "I believe that we do have the possibility of that devolving to a civil war, but that does not have to be a fact." Gen. Pace added: "Our enemy knows they cannot defeat us in battle. They do believe, however, that they can wear down our will as a nation."

THE POINT THE GENERAL WAS MAKING...
Is that our country is supporting our effort therefor they are helping the country lead to civil war. The thugs causing problems there keep close attention to the reaction of our country. We arent steadfast and havent been since Vietnam.. Or in short.. our weakness will ultimately be the death of us.

Not to mention they didn't come out to vote in the huge numbers they promised to show.
I blame them for the mess we're in to begin with. Their good buddy Bill Clinton sat for 8 years with this thumb up his money maker, and didn't do jack squat to prevent these attacks.

see the problem with this argument..... is that it's the same old song and dance. The media "controls" the conservative right. The american media is really nothing more or less than the propaganda organ of and for the powers that be. The media does not have a liberal bias. Perhaps that was somewhat tru in the thirties when the idea of a liberal press first arose. on the other hand Hearst, as in Hearst newspapers, was a serious nazi supporter. liberal? i don't think so.
you're so right about one thing though, the media does control many peoples thinking. people have one or two "news" sources that they turn to, whether it's because the blonde on channel 5 always leaves her top two buttons undone or whatever. the blonde says, casually "this and such," and tomarrow it's conon. 'They wouldn't say it if it wasn't so..... ." right.

Your logic seems to be that
if x says y
and w says z
then z and y must be equal in truth and merit.
sorry buddy.....
the point isn't that one side is mislead or that one side is losing political points.
this is the simplistic world view.
the important thing to take from all this is the F'ing warning that the country is headed to civil war!!!!
its the warning that is important....so it can be prevented or whether the U.S should pick a side, or wether the U.S should not get involved and leave.
that is the real point....
not that another general said something diffrent, that childish...come on now.

The media reinforces constantly what they WANT to hear, so it is self-fulfilling. They don't take the time to distinguish fact from propaganda. They listen to sound bites, choose the one they like, and hold it up like a standard rather than getting all the information and making an informed decision.

If you believe their is a difference between the Dems and the 'Pubs, YOU are the media dupe.
They are different sides of the SAME coin.
They both suck up to corporate money and could care squat about the environment and the world around us.

how is that wrong?
what merit is there in sustaining our will in that nation? we have broken it and if we cannot fix it, we may have to step aside and see if it fixes itself. the general says the country is devolving and we may still save it. who is he then referring to as "the enemy"? which side do we take in this civil war???

why is anyone? people believe what they are told, and the more they're told it, the more they believe it, espeically if it jives with what they already believe. that's why media has such a huge impact on every aspect of our lives.
