Some bastard at southwest stole my cufflinks and tuxedo buttons from a small pocket on the front of my luggage from oakland to seattle.

Since they were stolen, you have zero chance of getting them back. You can maybe file a claim with the airline, they might give you some money for them if you know their value. I think this is a major area of crime that we hardly ever hear about, and nothing is ever done about it...baggage handlers stealing everything they can get their hands on...thinking it is just a "perk" of their job.
