apparently when we sneeze our soul or spirit leaves our body for a split second.. so people bless us so we cannot be possessed while our spirit (soul) is absent from our body..

When you sneeze, your heart stops and also there is a risk of eyeballs coming out, so people say "bless you" to hope that you are okay.

my mom told me that when we sneeze our heart skips or stops on the beat and we say god bless you so that it will keep on ticking.... I know very unscientific explaination but that is what I've always heard.
