It's convenient: if I get lost, delayed, confused, or just decide to bail on someone I can let them know really easily. It's also nice to know that if there is a problem I can get help fast. And cellphones are easy to set on silent when you don't want to accept calls.
This also reminds me of a story one of my professors told me: his grandfather got a telephone way back when. when there were still operators and his phone number was 2, and somebody called him. The grandfather answered the phone and said: "don't call me ever again, this is for me to call out, not for you to call in."
A cell doesn't have to tie you down, only if you let it.

If you have a cell phone, you can call 911 when you are alone and something bad is happenning. You can call your friends when you are stuck in the middle of the road and have no gas. The call box is right there but it's more expensive. Yes phones may be breakable so I would suggest having the samsung t809. If you think talking to people too much is bad then get a PDA, it will help you in the office and stuff like that. In a movie theatre, just put the phone on silent. There are international phones where you can talk to people from China or some other place. You can play games when you are bored and most phones have an mp3 player and a video camera. do you think it's better to have all the technology in one device than carrying your ipod and your radio and your camera and your house phone and your laptop and your office supplies and your gameboy around with you? Many phones are cheap if you get a plan which is better than prepaid, which i have now. SO GET A PHONE AND BE HAPPY WITH ALL THE COOL STUFF!.

I did not know how addictive I had become attached to it . aAs you said yes you become tied to it! and yes I was with heavy bills going over the phone plan each month. untill Imy cell phone met it's timely death in the washer. I was mad and was going to replace it but then I let a month go by and I have a lot more free time then I did when I had that time hog thing oh what do you call that thing again oh yea!! a cell phone I beleive LOL
and another reason I do not like cell phones or pagers or radios or pda's is cause they can be of help to one that is true but also they can be used as homing devices to track where you are. and I do not want people to know every second my bussiness LOL Time will come later on I think when the goverment will be so up tight they will want to know when one take a c r a p

Wow! You're one interesting person. When almost everyone is dying to have a cellphone and then there you are not wanting to have one nor planning to have one. I feel envious of you. This cellphone thing really is something especially when you are so much close to loved ones living in the other side of the globe. But really, sometimes it's also gotten in my nerves. That's why I really love this toothpaste commercial here in the Philippines, with the banner "the world may have been smaller but not necessarily closer".
I wish I'm like you. Problem is in this country, cellphone is a must when you are working in a multinational company. It's like email. Problem is, with email you almost always need a computer which is bulky. Also, cellphone is more affordable than a lap top.
Someday, you may just realize you also need a cellphone. But I don't see it coming to you in probably a few more months.
Regards my friend :)

Well a friend of mine was driving home from the country at night when her car broke down. She was in the middle of nowhere, with no one, in the dark with a broken car. Her cell phone came in very handy. It helps a lot in these ways but hey if you dont want one, all the power to you. I personally will never go without one but thats just me. If someone calls and you dont want to talk then just dont answer it. Then you can see what they wanted in the message. Thats what I do.

Well, just be yourself, if you don't want a cell phone because you are afraid people will disturb you, don't buy a cell phone.
I have got a one myself, very handy when I travel and I need to send or receive a short message. I never got disturbed, maybe I am lucky about that.
No, my cell phone is not a status symbol, it is just a useful thing...

I truely agree with you....Everyone insisted I get one and they ring me any time it suits them.
I never make a call from it only receive. I was convinced that if my car were to break down or another emergency that it would be handy to have one.
I hate the bloody thing and wish they'd never been invented.
