The other day I went to my office at Delhi (ONGC). I saw AMit Bhandari and Gagan Khoda loitering in the office. The guys are so young and even had played for India. But thier career for India are probably over. Fortunately, their jobs in ONGC has been regularised. So, my advice is try getting into the Ranji team and based on your inclusion in the Ranji team you should be able to find an employment. Stop thinking of taking cricket as an career. Either you will have to be the best (like Dravid or Sachin) or have someone backing you (like Venu Gopal Rao) to survive as a cricketer.

G'day Gaurav L,

Thanks for the question.

The first thing is being selected for your state or city in the Ranji Trophy.

I would speak with the coach of the relevant team asking which areas he thinks you need to improve in order to be a regular selection. Then I would work on improving them and cementing a spot in the side.

You will then be in a position to impress the Indian selectors. You can then get feedback on how to go from a first class player to an international player.

Good luck with your cricket career.

Regards

When you endevour to represent your country in any sport, you have to be in the top bracket of that sport.Cricket is the number one sport in India. With thousands of teams Nowadays you have to be varsatile,(look at sachan, one of the greatest batsmen ever and he bowls as well) you need to do more than, bat or bowl You almost need to be an all rounder, fielding too is very important Try and get into a good team, get a coach and do whatever it takes to be better Good luck I hope you make it BIG TIME
