the earth is not damaged however buildings are if too close this coming in the form of cracked plaster or sheet rock . the earth at new subway tunnels may shift as it settles . the tunnels themselves are designed for the vibration abuse.

nope. THey acually shake almost none externally. If they shook externally the tracks would move/come up/be damaged and the cars would be jumping off the tracks all the time.
